Lacrosse Practice Plans for Kids
Lacrosse lives and dies on stick skills, and those only come from reps. Coach Coach builds practices where every kid is cradling, passing, and catching constantly โ plus small-sided games to make it stick.

Every age is different. Pick your group for age-appropriate drills, structure, and a ready-to-run sample plan.
What to work on in youth lacrosse
The first skill โ every kid, every practice, until it's second nature.
Partner reps and wall-ball-style work so no one stands and watches.
Scooping under pressure, taught as competitive races and games.
3v3 and 4v4 build stick skills and decisions with the ball moving fast.
Gear: Sticks, plenty of balls, cones, goals, and required protective gear.
A sample lacrosse practice plan
Here's a real plan Coach Coach generated for a youth lacrosse team. Yours is tailored to your age group and what you want to work on.
๐ Lacrosse Practice โ Ages 9-10 โ 60 min
โฑ๏ธ Warmup (10 min)
- Lacrosse Tag โ Use sticks to tag each other softly (below the waist). Kids run around in a marked area. If tagged, do 5 stick twirls. Keeps everyone moving and gets them comfortable with their sticks.
๐ฏ Skill Work (25 min)
-
Passing Pairs (10 min) โ Pair up kids, spread out around the field. Practice passing and catching with both hands. Key cue: "Catch with soft hands, like catching an egg." Success looks like smooth, soft catches and strong, accurate throws.
-
Ground Ball Relay (15 min) โ Split into 3-4 teams. Line them up, and have them scoop a ground ball and run it back to their line. Next kid goes. Key cue: "Get low, like you're sneaking under a fence." Success is all kids getting low and scooping the ball up cleanly.
๐ Game Time (20 min)
- 3v3 Mini-Game โ Set up two small fields with cones for goals. Play 3v3 games, rotating teams every few minutes. Focus on spacing, passing, and having fun. Let kids experiment with positions and plays.
๐ง Wrap Up (5 min)
- Goal Celebration Drill โ Everyone lines up and takes a shot on goal from a short distance. Celebrate each goal with creative cheers. End with a quick huddle: "What's one thing you felt awesome about today?"
๐ What to Bring
- 12 lacrosse sticks ยท 12 balls ยท 8 cones ยท 6 pinnies
- Set up two small fields with cones for 3v3 games

Build your lacrosse planLacrosse practice questions
How do beginners build lacrosse stick skills fast?
Constant reps. Partner passing and lots of catching every practice โ plus wall ball at home โ builds hands faster than anything else. Keep everyone with a stick and a ball moving.
What should a first lacrosse practice cover?
Cradling and carrying the ball, then simple catching and throwing. Make it playful and rep-heavy; footwork and team concepts come later.
How long should youth lacrosse practice be?
60โ75 minutes. Keep drills short and finish with small-sided games so the skills show up in a game context.
